Dol Ho Restaurant
About This Spot
Stepping into Dol Ho Restaurant feels like slipping into one of San Francisco’s cherished neighborhood gems—a place where the hum of conversation and the clatter of dishes create a comforting backdrop to a traditional dim sum experience. The atmosphere is bustling yet unpretentious, marked by a lively rhythm that pulses with the steady flow of locals making their morning or midday pilgrimage. There’s an unmistakable energy here, born not from hype but from a shared appreciation of familiar, hearty food served with a no-frills warmth.
The pace moves with a kind of casual urgency: steam rises from bamboo baskets, servers weave through a cozy maze of tables, and plates arrive hot and generous. It’s the kind of spot where you might find yourself sharing a table — a small act that hints at the communal spirit often found in Cantonese eateries. The ambience embraces a sense of everyday ritual, the kind that invites regulars to settle in without pretension and newcomers to taste something authentically simple yet gratifying.
The menu reveals its character through mouthwatering highlights like the bright pops of shrimp nestled in har gow and cheung fun, a signature promise of quality in every bite. There’s a sense of tradition in the way ribs over rice come steamed to tender perfection, inviting you to slow down and savor each bite, while crispy fried taro balls add a contrasting texture that’s equal parts comforting and playful. The offerings feel rooted in decades of dim sum practice—each dish crafted more for satisfaction than showmanship, drawing attention to generous portions and genuine flavor.
Dol Ho’s charm lies as much in its atmosphere as in its food: the lively chatter, the occasional burst of Cantonese from the kitchen, and the ebb and flow of a place that thrives on local loyalty rather than glossy polish. It is the kind of restaurant where you can come as you are—whether for a quick bite or a leisurely shared meal—and feel connected to a community that values tradition and heartiness above all.

For a hole in the wall .. great place for take out or sit down .. locals come around 10 Cuz that’s when the spare ribs over rice comes out ! Simply the best Har Gow & shrimp Cheung fun … why ? They’re generous with the shrimps .. a shrimp in every bite, fried items r great but I would skip the Buns .. too much carbs, not enough filling, bun tends to be on the drier side

I have been here many times. This place is a local favorite that serves up great and authentic Chinese dishes. I usually stop by for their famous sparerib rice bowl along with some fresh dim sum. At times, they can be crowded where you can wait or share a table with someone and that does not bother me at all since I have high patience. Their menu is straight forward that consists of steamed/baked buns, dim sum, rice bowls, fried goods etc. I always leave satisfied and fulfilled with their great options. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a sit down dim sum place or if you just so happen to be in the area. I definitely will be back to tryout other dishes they have to offer.

If you are looking for a fast dim sum place with big portions, this is it!! The steamed small ribs and fried taro balls were very tasty. Open at 9:30am!

Cheap, big portions, good flavors. Recommend the spare ribs over rice, shrimp dumplings, and fried shrimp ball. A “cafeteria” style restaurant, that was very full when we went. May have to wait for tea and table cleaning, but food came out really fast.

Authentic dim sum, great portions at great prices. Turnip cake was delicious and the staff are welcoming (in your loud, typical cantonese aunt kinda way). There is no place like this in London! Would recommend if you're around town.

Get here at 930am at open and enjoy some of the best dim sum there is to offer. I am beyond impressed and that's coming from growing up going to flushing in queens, NY. I would come back here to try other delicious dishes. I'm almost hesitant to post this because I'd want to keep the old people happy in their routine.
